Motherhood - Inspirational LDS Quotes By Mormon Leaders.
89Motherhood - The Circle of a Woman's Reach...
President Thomas S. Monson - Prophet of the Lord.
" My dear sisters, do not pray for tasks equal to your abilities, but pray for abilities equal to your tasks. Then the performance of your tasks will be no miracle, but you will be the miracle."
- You never know what a girl is worth,
You’ll have to wait and see;
But every woman in a noble place,
A girl once used to be.
Motherhood is a sacred responsibility.
As the mother of five children, and the grandmother (or Nana) of now NINE grandchildren, I am profoundly moved by the sacred responsibility and gift, which motherhood - has been in my personal life. There have been many times, particularly when my own children were small - that I did not completely understand the full impact of what motherhood, and its far-reaching influences would and could be, on so many lives.
Because of this - I found myself down in the dumps on occasion... Particularly, young mothers - are very susceptible to this state of mind - you know?
Things are much different now. I have been tossed to and fro by the winds of adversity as a mother, as well - I have been at the heights of joy. Not too much time existing between these events either. With all of these experiences I have now come to understand the privilege and power of motherhood.
Mother is not only a teacher, but even more - she herself, becomes the humblest of student. Mothers often are found to be kneeling at the very feet of a wise Father, who is in Heaven.
I will eternally be indebted to the leaders of the LDS Church, who have taught well - the sacred nature and responsibility of the role of motherhood. Through deeper understanding of the Plan of Salvation and the importance of the role of women in that plan - I now know, just how important my life's work has been, and will continue to be - through the gift to all women, of - motherhood.
I have compiled a few quotes and counsel about motherhood - from LDS leaders, who have inspired me personally. I hope that the knowledge of these eternal truths, which they have taught regarding the very special and sacred role of women and motherhood will also touch your heart.
Enjoy!

Inspirational Quotes About Women and Motherhood...
President Gordon B. Hinckley on motherhood:
“Most of you are mothers, and very many of you are grandmothers and even great-grandmothers. You have walked the sometimes painful, sometimes joyous path of parenthood. You have walked hand in hand with God in the great process of bringing children into the world that they might experience this estate along the road of immortality and eternal life. It has not been easy rearing a family. Most of you have had to sacrifice and skimp and labor night and day. As I think of you and your circumstances, I think of the words of Anne Campbell, who wrote as she looked upon her children:
You are the trip I did not take;
You are the pearls I cannot buy;
You are my blue Italian lake;
You are my piece of foreign sky.
(“To My Child,” quoted in Charles L. Wallis, ed., The Treasure Chest [1965], 54)
You [mothers] are the real builders of the nation wherever you live, for you have created homes of strength and peace and security. These become the very sinew of any nation.” Gordon B. Hinckley, “Women of the Church,” Ensign, Nov 1996, 67
Mothers teach their children to dream - that which is possible.
Motherhood - The Highest and Noblest of Work in this Life!
Elder Russell M. Nelson on motherhood:
“During my professional career as a doctor of medicine, I was occasionally asked why I chose to do that difficult work. I responded with my opinion that the highest and noblest work in this life is that of a mother. Since that option was not available to me, I thought that caring for the sick might come close. I tried to care for my patients as compassionately and competently as Mother cared for me.
Many years ago the First Presidency issued a statement that has had a profound and lasting influence upon me. “Motherhood,” they wrote, “is near to divinity. It is the highest, holiest service to be assumed by mankind. It places her who honors its holy calling and service next to the angels.
Because mothers are essential to God’s great plan of happiness, their sacred work is opposed by Satan, who would destroy the family and demean the worth of women.” Russell M. Nelson, “Our Sacred Duty to Honor Women,” Ensign, May 1999, 38
Mothers find the beauty of life wherever it may be...
Womenhood - Mothers Who Know Who They Are...
President Julie B. Beck on motherhood:
“The responsibility mothers have today has never required more vigilance. More than at any time in the history of the world, we need mothers who know. Children are being born into a world where they “wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places”
"However, mothers need not fear. When mothers know who they are and who God is and have made covenants with Him, they will have great power and influence for good on their children.” Julie B. Beck, “Mothers Who Know,” Ensign, Nov 2007, 76–78
Elder M. Russell Ballard on mothering:
"There is no one perfect way to be a good mother. Each situation is unique. Each mother has different challenges, different skills and abilities, and certainly different children. The choice is different and unique for each mother and each family. Many are able to be “full-time moms,” at least during the most formative years of their children’s lives, and many others would like to be. Some may have to work part-or full-time; some may work at home; some may divide their lives into periods of home and family and work. What matters is that a mother loves her children deeply and, in keeping with the devotion she has for God and her husband, prioritizes them above all else." “Daughters of God,” Ensign, May 2008, 108–10
Mother is teacher, mentor and student...
It is the birthright of every child born - to have a Mother.
Every child has a divine birthright to have both a mother and a father. To dismiss either one of these parents and their divine roll in a child's life, is to not understand the critical role of parents.
The family is the basic unit of society and is ordained of God. It is through the family, that children progress best and ultimately find happiness eternally.
Motherhood - The Master of Heaven and Earth is There to Bless You.
Elder Jeffrey R. Holland on motherhood:
“When you have come to the Lord in meekness and lowliness of heart and, as one mother said, “pounded on the doors of heaven to ask for, to plead for, to demand guidance and wisdom and help for this wondrous task,” that door is thrown open to provide you the influence and the help of all eternity. Claim the promises of the Savior of the world. Ask for the healing balm of the Atonement for whatever may be troubling you or your children. Know that in faith things will be made right in spite of you, or more correctly, because of you.
You can’t possibly do this alone, but you do have help. The Master of Heaven and Earth is there to bless you—He who resolutely goes after the lost sheep, sweeps thoroughly to find the lost coin, waits everlastingly for the return of the prodigal son. Yours is the work of salvation, and therefore you will be magnified, compensated, made more than you are and better than you have ever been as you try to make honest effort, however feeble you may sometimes feel that to be.” Jeffrey R. Holland, “‘Because She Is a Mother’,” Ensign, May 1997, 35
A Mother must maintain proper perspective in order to see the view.
"...one of the greatest things a father can do for his children is to love their mother."
President Howard W. Hunter on motherhood:
A man who holds the priesthood has reverence for motherhood. Mothers are given a sacred privilege to “bear the souls of men; for herein is the work of [the] Father continued, that he may be glorified” ( D&C 132:63).
The First Presidency has said: “Motherhood is near to divinity. It is the highest, holiest service to be assumed by mankind” (in James R. Clark, comp., Messages of the First Presidency, 6 vols., Salt Lake City: Bookcraft, 1965–75, 6:178). The priesthood cannot work out its destiny, nor can God’s purposes be fulfilled, without our helpmates. Mothers perform a labor the priesthood cannot do. For this gift of life, the priesthood should have love unbounded for the mothers of their children.
Honor your wife’s unique and divinely appointed role as a mother in Israel and her special capacity to bear and nurture children. We are under divine commandment to multiply and replenish the earth and to bring up our children and grandchildren in light and truth (Moses 2:28; D&C 93:40). You share, as a loving partner, the care of the children. Help her to manage and keep up your home. Help teach, train, and discipline your children.
You should express regularly to your wife and children your reverence and respect for her. Indeed, one of the greatest things a father can do for his children is to love their mother.
A man who holds the priesthood regards the family as ordained of God. Your leadership of the family is your most important and sacred responsibility. The family is the most important unit in time and in eternity and, as such, transcends every other interest in life.
We reiterate what was stated by President David O. McKay: “No other success [in life] can compensate for failure in the home” (David O. McKay quoting J. E. McCulloch, “Home: the Savior of Civilization,” in Conference Report, Apr. 1935, p. 116) and President Harold B. Lee:
“The most important of the Lord’s work you and I will ever do will be within the walls of our own homes” (Harold B. Lee, Stand Ye in Holy Places, Salt Lake City: Deseret Book Co., 1974, p. 255). Effective family leadership, brethren, requires both quantity and quality time. The teaching and governance of the family must not be left to your wife alone, to society, to school, or even the Church. Howard W. Hunter, “Being a Righteous Husband and Father,” Ensign, Nov 1994, 49
Motherhood - A priceless and eternal gift.
Women and Motherhood...
Quotes about mothers and motherhood...
I hope that these eternal truths, as taught by leaders of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints, have been inspiring to other mothers.
I am so grateful to be a mother. I have learned everything important in my life, through my experiences as a mother. One very important aspect of motherhood, is the fact - that "motherhood" is an eternal calling.
Regardless of whether or not a woman is able to have children, she is nevertheless - a mother. A woman - is a mother to all she knows and loves.
This - is what I have come to know, about motherhood. To be a woman, is to be a mother. Motherhood is the gift given to women - to bring life into this world, in countless ways.
I would like to dedicate this hub, about the importance of mothers and motherhood, to my own three daughters; Jennette, Laura and Brittney - and to each of my six beautiful grand-daughters. I am who I am, because of what they have taught me, and continue to teach me - each and every day of my life.
Love,
Mom

Nana,
As always, a beautiful job with incredible pictures.
Hi LdsNana-AskMormon,
As usual you astound me with your grip on life and the way God fashions it for us, to help, shape and mold us into his own. The good and the bad all work together for our ultimate good. Speaking of Motherhood, you remind me of Deborah in the Old Testament who God chose to be a 'Mother' to Israel. It was not easy, and by the way, she had a husband. She did not shrink from the task and honor. And from reading the pages of your heart, through some of your hub articles, I think I can say You didn't shrink either. God bless you.
good wonderful work..........
Thank you!
Awesome, just absolutely beautiful.
Beautiful words, beautiful thoughts, lovely pictures. Thanks!
This is beautiful! Motherhood is sacred - grandmotherhood too! I love the first picture of your newborn grandbaby. :)
Thank you for sharing such beautiful truths with others. I am working on a gift for my husband's grandmother and did a search for lds quotes by prophets. Your page came up as a link and I decided to check it out. What a wonderful reminder it was to me of my divine calling as a mother. I hope that may others are inspired just as I was when they read those words.
Nice quote. Love to Lilly.
Wow this is making me cry being a young mother myself. I read the Anne Campbell statements quoted by President Hinckley and they just really resonated with me. It's easy to dwell on all the things you are missing by being a mother (especially in the young phase without a lot of money) ... but you really need to remember the amazing positive parts of it and those beautiful babies who are everything to you.
I do so like to read your articles. You pick your subject`s so well and do a great job of commuateing your Thoughts.I sure can`t speak from the mothers side. But from a sons perspective, As I recall,When I called home and My father answered. The conver sation went something like this. " Hi dad, is Mom home! Loved my Dad. But when I needed to talk It Was My Mother, I needed MOST !
This is a wonderful hub!
Now that I am a grandma, I find that I have a different perspective. I can see things now that I couldn't when I was younger and my own children were small, things I now wish I'd done differently with my kids, things I regret and wish I could do over. On the other hand, they would be different people from who they are, and I like who they are.
I think my biggest realization has been that raising my kids was an even more important job than I had acknowledged. It's when I think of the enormous importance of it that I critique my performance as a mom, but always come back to the fact that they grew up to be nice, responsible adults with good hearts. So, I must've done some things right. Perhaps that's one thing that I've learned from them.
What a lovely hub you have come up with. Very inspirational quotes. Nicely done. Thumbs up for you. :)
Thank you for the wonderful quotes and lovely pictures. I get to speak in church on Mother's Day. These quotes will really help!
Thanks,
Cami
